Editors’ Foreword
As the Journal of Conscientiology is a multidisciplinary
publication which aims to be a forum of debate on the manifestation
of the consciousness for researches from different areas of knowledge,
the editors recognize the importance of having texts as readable
and jargon-free as possible. But this presents two difficulties.
The fact that each area of study needs a minimum of its specialized
terminology and language in order to communicate certain ideas is
one of them. Shorthand expressions for groups of assumptions and
ideas avoid authors from having to repeat the same complete description
of assumptions over and over again. Another factor is that the existence
of a shared scientific “dictionary” is very unlikely
to be established, since the JC welcomes papers from researchers
and scientists of any area who are investigating the consciousness.
We encourage authors to keep technical terminology
to a minimum; nonetheless, as we will evidently encounter a majority
of articles authored by researchers in the area of conscientiology
itself, we can expect a greater incidence of conscientiological
terms to be contained in the articles. These terms express specific
sets of concepts and references to those examining this field of
knowledge.
In order to exhort scientists from different areas
to debate ideas published by conscientiology researchers, we are
reprinting an updated version of the Glossary of Conscientiology.
The conscientiological glossary is republished annually with the
primary aim of supporting those who have recently become members
or subscribers to the Journal of Conscientiology.
In this issue you will find interesting works and
ideas, such as the thorough experimental research performed by physicists
and chemists into the observations of the germination of gamma-radiated
canary seed under the influence of the Johrei practice. Johrei involves
an application of bioenergies by the laying on of hands.
In addition you will also find a meticulous, in-depth
study of Synchronicity, which presents us with intriguing ideas
and facts.
An essay confronting ‘information and wisdom’ and a
first-hand account of a conscious, willed projection add to the
scope of contributions of this issue.

ABSTRACT: In order to investigate the effect
of the laying on of hands on the germination of previously irradiated
seeds of Phalaris canariensis (the method known as Johrei), groups
of seeds were irradiated with gamma radiation from 137Cs before
hydration. After hydration, half of the groups were submitted to
Johrei, while the other half were used as control. The number of
germinated seeds was counted over intervals of time. A comparison
between the countings for each time interval was performed through
a variance analysis approach (ANOVA) for a confidence interval of
95%. This analysis revealed significant differences between countings,
corresponding to treated and non-treated groups at some time intervals.
Key-words: Johrei, laying on of hands, germination, canary seed,
gamma radiation.
gamma.

Synchronicity & the Structure of the
Psyche
Marc J. Seifer
ABSTRACT: Meaningful coincidences were first
logged and analyzed by Paul Kammerer who suggested that these events
revealed a heretofore unrecognized law of nature which tended to
bring like and like together. Jung carried the analysis further
suggesting that the mind transcends our normal concepts of space
and time. Realms of the psyche which he called archetypes, located
in the collective unconscious, were somehow responsible for collecting
or linking similar events which were not related by physical cause
and effect energies but rather by meaning. Seifer introduced the
term "kicker" to denote the extreme precision of the more
spectacular synchronistic events, while Persinger speculated that
the geomagnetic pulsations of the earth may somehow be involved
in initiating or acting as carrier frequencies. If the world is
constructed on holographic principles aligned with such concepts
as Leibnitz's monad theory or Mach's Principle whereby in some derivative
sense, each part codes for the whole, it is possible that properties
inherent in holography may represent the physical part of this process,
whereas synchronistic phenomena may be the mental counterpart.
Jung levou adiante a
Seifer introduziu

From Theory to Practice
Brooke Gordon
I fell asleep while lying on the bed in the Mentalsoma
Laboratory, the very last lab out of forty-five that I had done
during the two months I stayed at the Center for Higher Studies
of the Consciousness (CHSC) in Iguassu Falls, Brazil. I should add
that I had tried to do this lab two other times during my stay,
but there had been a problem with the air conditioner, forcing me
to reschedule. I have a definite feeling this was due to extraphysical
influences, since I seemed to be the only one who had this issue.
I awoke slightly a few times during this lab and noticed that my
entire body was numb and had a strong, tingling sensation all over
it. I also couldn't move my body, but because I was still half asleep,
this paralysis didn't concern me. After the third or fourth time
of awakening slightly, I began to work with my energies. One second
later I was literally thrown, or should I say catapulted, out of
my body to the other side of the room (it felt like I was about
12 feet away). I couldn't see anything at all and couldn't control
my psychosoma. My para-arms and legs (extraphysical arms and legs)
were flailing all over the place in a desperate attempt to steady
myself, to no avail. I thought about going up and away from my body,
but had trouble deciding where I wanted to go, since I couldn't
see anything. Then I felt a quick movement as though I had flown
somewhere, but opened physical eyes and was actually back in my
body. I didn't feel any repercussions to my soma when I landed,
but I did feel lots of energy throughout my holosoma that lasted
over an hour. It was incredible!
Upon reviewing this event and writing about it, I think it would
probably seem scary to someone who has never experienced this feeling
before - of being out of the body and not being able to see or coordinate
the psychosoma. In actuality, though, I wasn't scared at all. I
only felt frustration at this lack of control and inability to see.
However, at the same time, I felt very aware, light and free, like
I was made of pure, flowing energy or a mercury-type substance.
The whole projection lasted for what seemed like less than a minute.
That didn't matter to me, because it served the very important purpose
of giving me a whole new, first-hand, multidimensional perspective.
It has changed something inside me. I have never before felt so
motivated or confident in my abilities, both intraphysically, as
well as extraphysically.
I think it is extremely synchronistic that my first out-of-body
experience occurred during my final laboratory, since I had done
so many! I talked to Dr. Vieira about this experience and he said
it's normal to have trouble controlling the psychosoma at first,
but that this was only the beginning!

Editor's comments
Brooke Gordon’s experience illustrates two
elements that are reported by a significant percentage of those
who claim having had an OOBE. The first is the instability of the
psychosoma, a condition when the projector feels a momentary lack
of control over the psychosoma.
Secondly we observe the incapacity to have visual perception of
the extraphysical environment. This phenomenon is known as “blind”
projection; in other words, a projection in which, although totally
lucid and aware of being out of the body, the projector is not able
to “see” his/her surroundings. This condition seems
to be caused by the load of bioenergy in the projector’s psychosoma.
The proximity to the physical body is one of the causes for this
situation. Had Brooke managed to move further from her physical
body she would probably have gained her visual ‘awareness’.
It is interesting to appreciate the fact that so many projectors
return to their body because of the hesitation regarding their projective
target. Even those who are experimenting with projective techniques
sometimes neglect planning their destination beforehand. Possible
hypotheses to explain such behavior are the fact that individuals
concentrate so much effort on the challenge of producing the experience
that they forget about this issue; or, perhaps, they assume it will
take a lengthy period of time for them to be able to achieve the
experience and, therefore, do not prioritize the importance of having
an extraphysical target.
